Sherbourne Fundraising Event

Charity Fundraising Event, Sherborne Kathryn took part in a charity fundraising event for the local youth drop-in centre and support organisation, ‘The RendezVous’.  A slightly different style from her usual performances, Kathryn sang numbers which would have found their home in the music halls of the first half of the 20th Century and dressed in Victorian-esque costume! A very worthwhile and fun event, raising lots of money for the RendeVous.

Taizé Workshop Kathryn helped to run a Taizé workshop with some friends at a chanting weekend in Somerset.  It was a real honour to take part in the first ever ‘Bhakti Music Festival’ which included devotional chanting from several world religions.  The Taizé workshop was the only Christian chant and it was a great opportunity to represent Christianity at another interfaith event to help people understand the teachings of Jesus.

Unity of Faiths Event in Leytonstone, London This event was a concert by two famous Indian signers, Sumeet Tapoo and Munmun.  I opened with the popular singer, Therese, and Ram Meetok.  We did a new medley where Therese sang a Jewish prayer; I added a ‘Kyrie Eleison’ and Ram sang a Hindu prayer.  Another interesting mix!

24/7/11

Glastonbury Kathryn sang at a private picnic in Glastonbury on a beautiful sunny Sunday.  It was a special occasion with a small number of people, but we all felt the presence of God moving among us.

Unity of Faiths Event in Ilford, London This was another event organised by the Unity of Faiths team, with whom I sing as a representative of Christianity.  The event was for ‘Guru Purnima’ which is a festival in the Hindu calendar, and was held in a Hindu temple.  It is to honour the spiritual teacher, and so I sang to Jesus.  I sang the Opening Prayers medley with the other representatives, Shahid Abbas Khan, Renu Gidoomal and Jagdish Patel and I also sang ‘As I Kneel’ from ‘Still is the Word’.

Unity of Faiths Festival, London This was the first event run by the Unity of Faiths team and was attended by around 8,000 people over the course of the day.  The festival was co-organised with Westminster Interfaith and involved the leaders from nearly every religious tradition.  The day began with each religion’s priest lighting a candle and saying a prayer, then I sang the ‘Opening Prayers’ with Shahid Abbas Khan (Muslim), Renu Gidoomal (Sikh) and Jagdish Patel (Hindu).  This was a medley using prayers from each of these traditions and we all sang a Jewish prayer at the end.  I also sang ‘I Watch the Sunrise’ and was honoured to sing at such a successful event, encouraging peace and understanding amongst different religious groups.
